Top Questions

How do IAM 751/W24 employees cross the picket line?

Contact your manager if you plan to cross the picket line. Your manager will inform you once your badge has been activated to return to work.

How can I avoid fines from the union if I decide to cross the picket line?

If you decide to cross the picket line, there’s no requirement to resign from the union, but you may be fined by the union. If you choose to resign from the union, it will not impact your Boeing wages, benefits or seniority—during or after a strike. Your Boeing job status will not be impacted as a result of resigning from the union and/or crossing the picket line during a strike.

Why do we have two 401k plans in our offer?

Your union told us that retirement is one of the top issues for its members. After listening to their proposals, we were able to find a solution that delivers more automatic contributions for your retirement.

Why is the AMPP incentive program not included in the new contract offer?

Over the years, we heard your concerns about AMPP. It was hard to find one set of metrics that apply fairly to 33,000 people over many sites. That meant you had less control over your bonus year to year. So, we turned an uncertain AMPP payout into guaranteed money in the new contract. The guaranteed money comes in the form of a new, automatic contribution of up to $4,160 a year to an employees’ individual IAM 401(k) account. This is on top of Boeing’s market-leading 401(k) plan where the company automatically contributes 4%.

Were there any changes to progression? How long will it take for an employee to max out per the new contract?

In this new contract, there is only one set of progression steps in a career. Going forward, when you take a promotion to a higher graded job, you will no longer have your progression counter reset.

Additionally, if you are already at max rate and you take a promotion to a higher graded job, you will go straight to the new max rate.

There are still 12 progression steps needed to reach the max rate for any labor grade. This occurs by receiving a $0.50 increase every six months.

Were there any changes made to Vacation or Sick Leave benefits

Yes. Benefits will now be awarded as they are accrued. You will be able to use benefits as you accrue them and no longer have to wait until your anniversary date.

How does this contract affect retiree medical? Are there any increases in retiree benefits?

For employees retiring during this new agreement, they will have access to a Boeing-sponsored post-65 Medicare retiree program, beginning effective January 1, 2026. There are no changes to the existing Boeing-sponsored pre-65 retiree medical program.

Are health care costs increasing?

No. There will be a decrease in monthly employee contributions. Starting January 2025, paycheck contributions are decreasing by close to 10%.

What is the difference between the Boeing 401(k) plan and the IAM 401(k) plan? Do I have access to both?

Yes, you will now have access to two 401(k) plans. The IAM 401(k) plan, which is called the Machinists Retirement and Saving Plan (MRSP), is new.

Boeing committed to building the next new airplane in the region. Are there other job security elements too?

For over 100 years, our team has built incredible airplanes here in Washington and Oregon. This contract extends that legacy with a historic commitment to our employees and and our community. We’ve also made a commitment to maintain current employment levels for our employees with facilities and maintenance skills.

What is a tentative agreement? Do I still have to vote?

A tentative agreement means the company and the union have come to an agreement on the contract terms, and the union has endorsed it. A tentative agreement does not take away your right to vote.

How many employees will get job upgrades?

Approximately 4,200 employees to be upgraded based on the work they currently perform. This will provide our employees additional growth and pay in the system, leading to higher maximum rates.

What is the Machinist Retirement and Savings Plan?

The Machinist Retirement and Savings Plan (“MRSP”) is a defined contribution multiemployer plan (also known as a “Taft-Hartley Plan”) covering eligible employees of participating employers who have agreed under a collective bargaining agreement with IAM. Boeing has tentatively agreed to make employer contributions to the MRSP as part of current negotiations with IAM 751/W24 for Boeing employees represented by IAM 751/W24.

How much is the benefit under the MRSP?

The employer contributions that Boeing and IAM 751/W24 have tentatively agreed to would be a contribution by Boeing of $2.00 per hour paid (up to 80 hours per pay period), up to $4,160 per employee per year. The tentative agreement does not provide for any employee contributions to the MRSP. Note: IAM 751/W24-represented employees still have all the same rights under the Boeing 401(k), including making employee contributions from their Boeing pay and receiving employer matching contributions (up to 6%) and the automatic special company retirement contributions (4%) into the Boeing 401(k). In other words, the new Boeing contributions to the MRSP are in addition to the contributions IAM 751/W24-represented employees are already eligible to make/receive under the Boeing 401(k). Boeing contributions to the MRSP would begin for pay periods beginning on or after Jan. 1, 2025.

How does Company Couple Coverage work under the new contract?

If both an employee and their spouse or domestic partner are employed by Boeing, and both represented by IAM 751, one employee may elect to cover the other under the medical and dental plans. An active employee may also cover a spouse or domestic partner who has retired from the company and who waives retiree medical coverage. This will be effective starting Jan. 1, 2026.

When would I receive the lump sum payment?

The $3,000 lump sum will be paid within 30 days if the contract is ratified by 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 12.

When would I become eligible for paid parental leave?

Paid parental leave would begin Jan. 1, 2025. At that time, you can also use this benefit if you welcomed a new child between Sept. 13 and Dec. 31, 2024.

How does the floating holiday work?

Effective January 1, 2025, and each January 1 thereafter, employees would receive one annual floating holiday to be used in a full day increment. Employees can use it on a holiday or any other day they choose with advance scheduling. It must be used before the end of each year.

Which employees are covered in this negotiation?

There are approximately 33,000+ employees represented by the International Association of Machinists 751 in Washington and W24 in Portland, Oregon. While primarily supporting Boeing Commercial Airplanes, the bargaining unit also includes employees from Boeing Defense, Space & Security, Boeing Global Services and corporate groups.
